"How We Met" by Carrie

Aaron and I were in the same ward at the Colony apartments in Provo this past summer. I noticed him and thought he seemed like a great guy. I always noticed him going out of his way to be friendly to all he came in contact with. However, our paths did not seem to cross until later in the summer.

The first time I had a real conversation with Aaron was at our church social gathering one night. I was talking to someone, when he joined in the conversation. He then proceeded to ask a long list of “getting to know you” questions. I felt like I hardly had a chance to ask him any questions about himself. I walked away that night thinking about what a nice guy he is, and how I’d never met anyone quite like him. He was so friendly!

Well, unfortunately, neither of us pursued further contact with each other due to the distractions of the summer. The last Sunday before I moved out of the Colony, Aaron invited me and my roommate over for dinner. He cooked us sweet and sour chicken, and I was impressed at his culinary skills! We then played the game ImaginIf and I had such a fun time! I felt so comfortable around him and enjoyed his kind and easy-going personality.

From this point on, providence began to play a role in our relationship. Aaron and I had many random encounters in the next couple weeks. On the first day of school, I ran into him on campus as I was heading to my first class. I was pathetically out of breath from walking up the hill and could hardly carry on a decent conversation. However, this one incident began to really spark my interest in him. I remember telling him I was going to my “Strengthening Marriage and Family” class, and he laughed at me! Maybe he thought I was joking? :)

Aaron asked me to attend a fireside with him the following weekend, and we had a great time together. He then asked me to play tennis the next weekend. The next weekend we went on a bike ride together down the Provo River Trail. He packed us a lunch and we skipped rocks on the river. I was hooked from this time on. I knew I wanted to date him seriously.

As you can see, my feelings continued to grow for him until I eventually made the decision that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with this wonderful guy. He has made my life worthwhile and I could never imagine life without him now. He pulled me out of a dull and dreary world into a world full of color and excitement. Every day I am even more amazed at how incredible he is. Not to mention, he is such a handsome fella! I just love everything about him and cannot wait to spend the rest of my life and forever with him.

"The Proposal" by Aaron

I picked Carrie up for a Thursday night date. Little did she know of my plans… When I arrived, she had a fake ring on her finger, and that kind of threw me off. (We had gone ring shopping, and she knew a ring was coming within the next few weeks). She thought we were headed to dinner, but we started heading toward a favorite park of ours. On the way, I convinced her to take off the phony ring she had on. We arrived just in time for sunset.

I got out of the car, grabbed my backpack and we set off to the park pond/lake in the park. She wondered what the backpack was for, and I just told her, “Carrie, you’re ruining the moment.” We arrived, watched the sunset go down, and enjoyed being together. At this time, she was wondering what was going on. I just kept telling her, “Carrie, don’t ask any questions; you’re ruining to moment.”

I asked if she wanted to walk around the lake. Of course it was to build the suspense of what was happening and why I had my backpack. (She claims that it was to build courage). After very slowly moseying around, we sat down together on the dock. I pulled out my laptop from my backpack, and we watched a slide show I had put together of us to our favorite song, Here, by Rascal Flatts. It was a pretty sweet experience. It seemed to set a really good mood for the proposal that she had no idea was coming.

I convinced Carrie to walk around the lake one more time (all part of my plan) even though she was a smidge cold and at first hesitated. As she got up, I pulled the ring out from my backpack and was on my knee. When she realized I hadn’t gotten up to walk with her, she turned around. Of course she was astonished to see I was there with a ring – a real one! We had a beautiful moment together, and with a little convincing, she agreed to marry me. We couldn’t stop smiling, and it was an incredible evening.

Carrie makes life wonderful. She is genuinely sincere & very loving. She constantly makes all around her feel 10 times greater and makes me want to be better every day. I couldn’t feel more blessed in my life. I love her with all my heart!
